I am a student and at the moment I have a full 3DS 2010 version with Vray 1.5. I can get a Vray 3.0 licence really cheap($200) from my uni but then I would need a newer version of 3DS.

I can get the student version of 3DS 2015 for 3 years.Would this increase my render speed a lot and will it be worth the money? I was also wondering if the student version watermarks would cause any conflict with the full version of Vray.Maybe this is not the right place but I also had a question about the V-ray RT. Will it be faster to use V-ray RT instead of normal V-Ray when I have a i5-4690K and a GTX 760. Are there any other downsides of using RT instead of normal V-Ray?I hope someone can help me. I'm fairly certain the student version of Max doesn't have watermarks.
And if you're paying money for the Vray student I wouldn't expect that does either. So no issues there.Personally I'm a fan of being on the latest version of the software, and since you can get Autodesk software for free as a student, do it.RT vs 'regular' - just a workflow thing IMO. Since it's not an either or limitation, just get Vray and explore, if you're willing to spend the money. If you're just starting out though, there's plenty you could do to learn and build a portfolio without using Vray specifically. Your money, your call.
I've been lucky enough to have my employers foot the bill, so haven't had to make that decision myself.
